I made chili with ground turkey instead of beef for the first time

I did a side by side test last week, using the same spices and beans. The turkey version cost me about $4 less for the same size pot. Honestly, the taste was just as good, maybe even a bit lighter. Has anyone else found a cheaper swap that really worked for a classic dish?

Ever try using lentils instead of half the ground meat in something like spaghetti sauce? I did that to stretch things out and was shocked, you really can't tell the difference with all the herbs and tomatoes. It cuts the cost way down and adds some extra fiber, which is a nice bonus.

Wait, you mean I didn't have to just accept that sad, lonely half-pound of meat as my fate? I tried the lentil swap once but I messed up and used the canned kind without rinsing them, so my sauce tasted like a tin can decided to become Italian. Maybe I should give it another shot with the dry ones.
