I was buying canned beans for years before my friend pointed out the dried bag
We were making chili at her place and I grabbed a can of kidney beans like always. She just laughed and said 'Girl, you're paying for water and a can!' She showed me a 2-pound bag of dried beans that cost $1.89. I cooked a whole pot that weekend and got the same amount as about 6 cans for less than half the price. It takes a bit more time, but you can make a big batch and freeze portions. Has anyone else switched to dried beans and found a good way to speed up the soak time?

@daniel470 says it's worth it until you forget to soak the beans and dinner is ruined.

That "paying for water and a can" line is spot on. My buddy did the same thing with lentils and now he just cooks a huge pot on Sunday. The extra time is worth it when you see the price difference.

I saw a guy on YouTube who buys dry beans in 25 pound bags. His pantry looks like a survivalist bunker.
