My cheap rice cooker turned out to be a total waste of $25

I bought it at a discount store because the box said it could cook rice and steam veggies. The first time I used it, the rice came out half raw and half burnt. I tried it two more times with different water amounts, same bad result. Now I'm back to using my old pot on the stove. Has anyone found a decent rice cooker that actually works without costing a fortune?

Wait, half raw and half burnt at the same time? How is that even possible? In my experience, a bad cooker usually just makes mush or undercooks it all. That sounds like the heating element is totally broken, like it's only hot on one side. I'd take that back to the store if you still can, because that's not just a bad cook, that's a straight up faulty product.

Spot on about the heating element. I had a cheap one that did the exact same thing... the bottom plate was warped from the factory. It never made proper contact, so one side was scorching hot and the other side was basically cold. That's a major flaw, not a cooking mistake. They definitely need to return it.

Yeah, garcia.tyler is right about the warped plate. That's a factory defect, not a user error. Have you checked if the store will take it back?
