My grandma's $4 potato soup beat a $30 soup kit I ordered online
Last month I got one of those fancy soup kits with the weird spices and dried herbs, figured it would be a treat. It came out watery and bland, honestly. So I called my grandma in Tulsa and she walked me through her old recipe, just potatoes, onion, butter, and milk. Whole pot cost me about $4 and it fed me for 3 days, way better than that kit. Anyone else got a family recipe that blows store bought stuff away?

Oh honey, my "fancy" cooking usually ends up tasting like cardboard with good intentions...

...and honestly I read somewhere that most home cooks overseason because they're scared of bland food, so they end up with a salt lick instead of a meal. That hit close to home for me. I started measuring everything with actual teaspoons instead of my heart and it made a weird difference. Still not fancy, but at least it tastes like food now instead of a mistake. Maybe try that next time, if you're up for it.
