My pantry restock talk with a food bank volunteer hit different

Ngl, this guy at the Houston food bank told me most folks skip beans and rice because they think it's boring, but he said cheap staples are only sad if you don't season them right. He showed me a $4 bag of dried pintos makes like 12 meals, and now I'm rethinking every 'fancy' $8 jar of sauce I buy. Anyone else got a reality check from someone who actually feeds people on a tight budget, and what did they say that stuck?
