My team's potluck idea saved us all cash on lunch

We each bring a cheap dish once a week. It's fun and cuts down on eating out, does anyone else do this?

My old office did this for a while and it was a huge help. We set up a basic sign-up sheet so we didn't end up with five bags of chips lol. Someone would bring a big thing of pasta, another person did veggie trays, stuff like that. It works way better if you keep the recipes simple so nobody gets stressed about cooking. Rotating the day each week also stopped it from being a burden on the same people. Definitely kept a lot of cash in our pockets back then.

Rotating the day sounds clever to spread the work... but did folks still find excuses to skip their turn? I've seen similar setups where some people always "forget" or bring store-bought stuff last minute. How did your office handle no-shows or low-effort contributions without causing drama?
