PSA: my grocery bill dropped from $680 to $412 a month and all I did was shop on Wednesdays
I started keeping every receipt in a ziploc bag shoved in my glovebox back in January, mostly to win an argument with my husband about where our money went. Turns out we were spending $680 a month on food, which felt insane for two people and a toddler in Dayton. Then I noticed something weird, the weeks I did my big run on Wednesday afternoon came out way cheaper than my usual Saturday morning trip. I looked it up and the Wednesday meat markdowns hit before the weekend rush, plus the store near me puts manager specials out around 2pm. So I flipped my whole schedule and now I'm at $412 and my freezer is packed, has anyone else noticed a certain day works better at their store or is it just mine?
The Kroger on Smithville Rd near me does the same thing with meat markdowns around 8am on Tuesdays, I got a pack of chicken thighs for $3.47 last week that was marked $11.99. I do my big run Tuesday morning now and then just grab milk and bananas on the weekend if we run out. My wife thought I was nuts for going at 8am but she stopped laughing when I showed her the receipts. The bakery stuff gets marked down too if you go early enough, got a whole loaf of sourdough for 99 cents.
