Question about dried beans vs canned

I keep seeing folks say canned beans are cheaper, but a 2 pound bag of dried black beans for $2.50 makes way more food. You just have to soak them overnight. Has anyone else done the math on this?

Plus you can control the salt and skip all that extra liquid, right?

Yeah but have you actually factored in the time and the energy cost? A 2 pound bag of dried beans needs hours of soaking plus another hour or two of boiling. That's like running your stove on high for 2-3 hours. Meanwhile I can pop open a can of beans in 30 seconds and have them ready to go. Even if the dried beans are cheaper per serving, my time and my electric bill matter too. Plus canned beans are already cooked soft and ready to eat, no risk of undercooking them and getting sick. I feel like people forget that time has value too.
