Shoutout to my neighbor for saving my cheap chili night

I was making a big pot of chili in my apartment last night to stretch for three meals. I realized I only had half a can of beans left, which was a problem because beans are the main cheap part. My neighbor heard me talking to myself and brought over a full can from her pantry. She said she always buys extra when they are on sale for 99 cents. I added it in and the chili turned out great and filled me up. Has anyone else had a meal saved by a last-minute ingredient share?

That bit about always buying extra when things are on sale is so smart. I do the same with crushed tomatoes, they're the base for like half my meals. Once I was making a pasta sauce and realized I was out, my roommate had a spare can because we both stock up on those 99 cent sales. It totally saved dinner that night.

My grandma always kept three extra cans of beans in her pantry, said it was how she got through the lean years. That habit of stocking up feels like a tiny act of rebellion against the chaos of daily life.

Can my pantry rebellion be just a weird collection of expired hot sauce?
