Spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why my rice cooker kept burning the bottom
I was making rice for dinner and the bottom layer came out black and crunchy 3 times in a row. Turns out I was using too much water after switching to a new bag of jasmine rice from Aldi. Anybody else run into a cooking time change when switching rice brands?

But actually the problem is PROBABLY your cooker not the rice. New jasmine from Aldi needs less water than the standard stuff because it's drier and absorbs differently. I've used the same rice for years and never had burning issues until I upgraded my cooker and had to adjust.

Hold up, are you saying my lumpy, half-burned rice is actually a compliment to my new cooker? I've been blaming myself this whole time, thinking I lost my touch after 20 years. Guess I gotta just keep experimenting with water ratios.

Try rinsing your rice first, then cut the water by a quarter cup.
