That $40 jar of 'premium' pasta sauce was a total bust

Picked up this fancy jar at the local market last week. Tasted like sugary ketchup and barely covered two servings. Anyone else get burned by expensive jarred sauce?

My local co-op sells it for $38. I've bought it three times now. The secret is you gotta doctor it up with a little red wine and fresh basil. It's not meant to be a dump-and-serve sauce. The ingredients are legit - real olive oil, san marzano tomatoes, no corn syrup. Compare that to the $3 jar full of sugar and soybean oil. I get almost four servings out of it by bulking it up with some sauteed mushrooms and ground beef.

$38 for pasta sauce and you're adding ground beef and mushrooms to stretch it out. That's like buying a designer handbag and using it to carry your lunch to work. @nora_walker57 you're doing the Lord's work justifying that purchase though. I've been known to dump a can of crushed tomatoes into a $12 jar just to make myself feel better about the price tag.
