That cafeteria at the county building has the worst $5 lunch I've ever seen

I had to go to the county building downtown last Tuesday to renew my tags and grabbed lunch at their cafeteria. $5 for a tiny scoop of mashed potatoes, a piece of dry chicken, and some canned green beans that looked sad. For that price I could've hit the grocery store and made 3 whole meals. Anyone else notice how government cafeterias charge restaurant prices for prison food?

I used to actually defend that place, I'd grab a burger there sometimes after jury duty and thought it was okay for the price. But last time I went the chicken was so dry I had to drown it in their weird watery gravy just to choke it down. Yeah no, $5 for that tiny portion of mushy green beans really opened my eyes, I'd rather just pack a sandwich or hit the deli across the street from now on lol.

Is it really that serious though? I mean yeah the chicken was dry and the green beans were sad, but it's still a burger joint downtown, not a steakhouse. I've had worse meals there and still managed to survive without swearing off the place forever. You could probably find something decent on the menu if you gave it another shot, maybe skip the chicken next time. But if the deli across the street works better for you, more power to you, no shame in switching it up.

Ugh, I hear you. I had a similar thing happen at a pizza place I used to love. Got a slice one time and the crust was like cardboard and the sauce tasted like nothing. I tried it again a few months later and it was just as bad. That deli across the street sounds like the move though, I found a little taco spot near me and never looked back. What kind of sandwiches does that deli do?
