That fancy spice blend I wasted $12 on ended up tasting like dust

I saw this gourmet taco seasoning mix at a market downtown last month. The jar looked nice and the label said 'hand blended with premium spices.' Cost me $12 which is a lot for me. Got it home, used it on some ground beef for a family meal, and it had almost no flavor at all. Total waste of money. Has anyone else fallen for these overpriced spice mixes from smaller stores?

Did you try adding salt or are you just scared of seasoning?

Had a buddy Mark who thought he was too cool for salt. He made this big pot of spaghetti sauce from scratch, crushed tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, the whole deal. Took a taste and said it was perfect. The rest of us took a bite and it was like eating a bowl of warm water with chunks. He sat there pouting while we all just dumped salt in our bowls to fix it. Even his wife told him to just admit he forgot. He finally added some and the whole thing came to life, tasted like actual food. That was five years ago and he still brings it up whenever someone mentions cooking.

My friend Linda once tried to make a pot of chili for a big family gathering. She followed the recipe exactly but left out the salt because she thought it would be fine. Everyone took one bite and just looked at each other. It was so flat and bland you could barely taste the tomatoes or the beef. Her brother-in-law ended up dumping a whole jar of salsa in his bowl just to get some flavor. She never skips the salt now, and neither should anyone else.
