Vent: the guy at the Kroger meat counter in Dayton told me to stop buying chicken breast
I was standing there last Tuesday with a family pack of chicken breast in my hand when the guy behind the counter, maybe 60 years old, looked at my cart and said "you know you're paying extra for the dry stuff, right?" He pointed me to the leg quarters at $0.79 a pound, and I kid you not, that same cart dropped from $47 to $22 and fed my family for 5 days instead of 2. I pushed back at first because I thought dark meat was greasy, but he showed me how to roast them on a sheet pan with potatoes and the skin gets crispy, no grease issue at all. The part that stuck with me is he said "breast is for people who don't know how to cook a thigh," and honestly it stung because he was right. I've been buying leg quarters every week since and my grocery bill is down almost $100 a month. Has anyone else had a store employee drop truth on them like that, or am I the only one who wasted years on the pricey cuts?
