Visited a discount grocery store in Detroit and found bulk lentils for 99 cents a pound
I was in Detroit last weekend visiting my cousin and she dragged me to this place called Gordon Food Service on Gratiot. It is not a normal grocery store, more like a restaurant supply place. I found 5 pound bags of green lentils for $4.99 and big cans of crushed tomatoes for $1.29 each. They also had a freezer section with bags of frozen mixed veggies for $2.00 a bag. The catch is you have to buy in bulk but if you split it with a friend it is a steal. Has anyone else found hidden deals at restaurant supply stores near them?

My cousin used to work at a Gordon Food Service back in 2012 and she told me they sell spices in those big industrial containers for way cheaper than the little jars at the regular store. I bought a tub of garlic powder there once and it lasted me almost two years before I finally used it all up. Just had to store it in a mason jar because the original container was way too big for my kitchen cabinet.

Wait, are we sure those bulk deals are actually saving money? I bought a giant bag of lentils from GFS once and half of them got weevils before I could use them up. Plus that $4.99 bag takes up half my pantry space, feels like false economy to me.
