Went to a fancy grocery store downtown and saw $8 for a single bell pepper

I was killing time before a dentist appointment and walked into this bougie market near Pioneer Square. How is anyone supposed to eat on a budget when they're charging that much for a vegetable that costs $1.29 at WinCo?

Defend that pepper like it's a designer handbag. You're paying for the CURATION and the STORY, not just a vegetable. That pepper was probably grown in some fancy soil blend and picked at 4 AM by a farmer who named it Gerald, so yeah, it's gonna cost more than a mass-produced one from the big box store. Plus that market pays its staff above minimum wage and sources from local farms, so your $8 is basically a donation to supporting ethical agriculture. If you can't afford it, just admire it and buy your peppers at WinCo like everyone else, no need to judge people who want to eat bougie.

Farmer Gerald probably serenaded that pepper with acoustic folk songs every morning (extra $1.50 per serenade) and it was hand-washed in artisanal rainwater (another $2). I saw a lady at my farmers market buy a single carrot for $6 because it was "heirloom purple" like buddy that carrot is just purple because it didn't get enough sun, not because it's royalty. But hey if someone wants to drop rent money on a pepper named Bartholomew who grew up with classical music, let them live their best life (and let me laugh quietly into my bag of 3-for-$1 bell peppers).
