Why does nobody talk about how much money you waste on bagged salad?

I was throwing away half a bag of salad mix every week for years. Then last month I noticed the bag said 'use within 3 days' and I was keeping it for a week and wondering why it turned to slime. Now I just buy a head of romaine for $1.29 and it lasts 10 days. Has anyone else figured out that bagged salad is basically a scam?

I bought a bag of "spring mix" last week and it turned into compost in my fridge in like 48 hours. My husband asked if I was starting a worm farm in there. I had to throw the whole bag out and I swear I heard it sigh with relief. Now I just buy a head of iceberg and hack at it with a knife like a cavewoman. Way less sad lettuce pancakes.

Is it really a scam though, or are people just not reading the bag? I've been buying the same pre-washed romaine hearts for years and they last a full week easy, plus I save time on washing and chopping. @kelly_craig I hear you on the spring mix turning fast, but that stuff is like ten different delicate leaves crammed together, no way it holds up like iceberg or romaine.

Ngl is it just iceberg that holds up or what? Romaine works for me too but spring mix is basically a science experiment waiting to happen. I stick to hardy greens and save the fancy stuff for a side salad I eat same day.
