Buddy told me my hostel booking site was costing me 30% more

I always used the first booking site I found for hostels. A guy I met in a Chiang Mai dorm said check the hostel's own website before booking. I tried it for my next stop in Pai and the private room was 200 baht cheaper direct. Now I always check the hostel site first and only use aggregators to find places.

@eva_adams68 same here, I learned the hard way too. Guess my superpower is overpaying for everything until someone calls me out on it.

Yeah @the_brian hit the nail on the head with that overpaying superpower comment. It's like we all have that one blind spot where we just assume the first option is the best deal. That 200 baht savings is no joke either, it really does add up over a whole trip. I swear I've wasted probably a few thousand baht in my life just being too lazy to check direct sites first. So yeah, solidarity there buddy, we're all learning this the hard way together.

Oh man, that's a rough lesson to learn. Good on you for figuring it out though, 200 baht adds up fast. I had a similar wakeup call with flights last year, it's wild how much you can save by just going direct.
