Got stuck in Portland for 2 extra nights after a $9 bus mix-up, now I can't decide if winging it is smart or stupid

Winging it is exactly how you ended up stuck there in the first place, so maybe that is the clue. A $9 mix-up turned into two extra nights, and now you're calling it a happy accident because Portland is fun and the food is good. That is not a plan, that is just a bill you haven't looked at yet. People love to say things work out, but rent and work and whatever you left back home don't care how spiritual the last two days felt. If you keep rolling the dice, eventually you land somewhere with no cheap bus and no friend's couch to crash on.
