Remember when hostels had actual kitchens you could use?

Three years ago in Lisbon, I stayed at a place called The Independente where the kitchen was fully stocked and everyone cooked together, cutting food costs to maybe 10 euros a day. Last month in Barcelona, the 'kitchen' was just a microwave and a sink, so we ended up spending way more on takeout. Has anyone found a good hostel with a real kitchen lately, or is that just a thing of the past now?

Ugh totally, it's such a bummer. I was in Berlin last fall and the hostel kitchen was just a sad little fridge and a hot plate, lmao. Ended up living on doner kebabs the whole week. Found a great spot in Krakow though, full stove and even had basic spices and oil for everyone. It made the trip way cheaper.

Maybe hostels are just cutting costs where it matters less. @emmawood found a good one in Krakow, so they're still out there if you look. Isn't it better to eat local food anyway?

I always check hostel photos for a real kitchen now, saves so much money.
