Took the overnight bus in Vietnam instead of flying, weirdly not mad about it

I was all set to book a $45 flight from Hanoi to Da Nang last month, but a guy at my hostel kept going on about how the sleeper bus was like $12 and honestly I thought he was crazy. I mean, 16 hours on a bus vs a 90 minute flight, that math never works for me usually. But he showed me the cabin beds with curtains and said I'd get two free meals and a stop at some hot springs along the way. So I caved and tried it. Turns out the bus was actually pretty comfortable, I slept better than I do on most red-eye flights, and I saved enough to do a private cooking class in Hoi An. Now I'm wondering if I've been sleeping on overnight trains and ferries too. Anyone else switched to budget land travel and gotten surprised by how decent it was? What route did you try?

Did you check if the overnight train to Sapa has those same curtained bunk beds?
