Appreciation post: I was paying for a gym membership I never used for almost two years
I finally looked at my bank statement last week and saw the $45 charge, same as every month. I hadn't been to that gym since before the pandemic, I just kept forgetting to cancel it. Called them up and they canceled it right away, no hassle. That's over a thousand dollars I just let slide for no reason. I felt so dumb, but also kind of rich all of a sudden. Anyone else have a subscription they forgot about that turned into a surprise savings?

Forgetting a gym membership is basically paying a thousand dollar fee for the privilege of feeling guilty every time you see workout clothes. My old streaming service did the same thing, quietly draining my account while I rewatched the same three shows on a different one. Who needs a personal trainer when you've got automatic payments to teach you about fiscal responsibility, right?

That's a serious chunk of change. Did you ask them about a possible refund for any of it? Some places have a policy if you haven't used the service in a long time, especially if you were a member for years. I've heard mixed results, but a friend got three months back from a streaming service after a similar situation.

Two whole years of $45 charges just flying under the radar? How did your bank not send up a single red flag?
