Appreciation post: My cash envelope system for model trains is a solid win, but apps have their perks. Which camp are you in?
I set aside $50 in physical cash each month for my model train parts, and it totally stops me from overspending (since I see the money leave my hand). My friend uses a budgeting app that syncs with his bank and says it's easier for tracking progress over time. I love the simple control of cash, but he argues apps give a clearer big picture. Honestly confused which approach leads to more consistent savings - what's your experience?

My budgeting app's alerts for train spending keep my savings on track better than cash.

Huh, I was pro-cash but your alert method changed my mind.

Disagree with that, honestly. Cash feels real in your hand (you can't ignore it like an alert). Those apps mean well, but they just add more screen time to my day. I tried a bunch and always went back to pulling out bills for stuff like train fare. Something about watching the money leave your wallet makes you think twice.
