Appreciation post: My old dishwasher bit the dust and it turned into a solid money move

My Frigidaire finally gave out two weeks ago in Austin. It started making this grinding noise and then just stopped draining. I figured I'd have to drop $600 on a new one right away. But instead of panicking, I checked YouTube and found out the pump was just clogged with a broken glass shard. Took me 20 minutes to clean it out and it's been running fine since. That little fix saved me from a big unexpected expense right before the holidays. Has anyone else had a near miss like that where a repair was way simpler than you thought?

That "20 minutes to clean it out" story is exactly why I always check YouTube before buying anything new. Saved me from replacing my dryer last year over a $5 belt.

Doesn't it feel like half the stuff we're told is broken actually just needs one simple fix that nobody tells you about upfront?

Boy, you're spot on about that. I had the same thing happen with my washing machine last summer, it kept stopping mid-cycle and I was already looking at new ones online. Turned out the drain hose was kinked behind the machine, ten seconds to fix it and it's worked perfectly ever since. It really makes you wonder how much money we throw away because nobody tells us the easy stuff first.
