Can we talk about people who treat budgeting like a religion?
My neighbor in Boise, named Dave, judged me hard for setting aside $40 a month for a fun fund instead of dumping every penny into retirement savings. He literally said "you're doing it wrong" while I was paying off my credit card debt at the same time. Does anyone else think small joys are a legit line item, or am I the only one who sees balance as the real win?

Dave's got a point about retirement, but $40 a month isn't going to be the difference between a good old age and a bad one. You're paying off debt and still saving, which is more than most folks in Boise can say, so his judgment sounds a bit off. Fun money that keeps you sane is just as important as a 401k, otherwise you'll burn out and quit saving altogether.
