Found a wholesale bakery outlet near downtown and it changed my grocery budget

I was driving home last Tuesday and spotted this place called Baked Goods Outlet off 5th street. Turns out they sell day-old bread and pastries from a few local bakeries for like 70% off. I got a whole loaf of sourdough for $1.50 and a bag of croissants for $2.00. Has anyone else stumbled on a hidden outlet like this in their city?

Hang on, $1.50 for a loaf of sourdough is a GREAT deal but those places usually don't stock stuff from "a few local bakeries." Most of those outlets are just one specific company's overstock, like a Franz or Oroweat store. You probably got lucky with a mixed shipment or they're testing out new suppliers. Still, a bag of croissants for two bucks is impossible to beat unless they're all crumbs. Just keep an eye on the expiration dates, some of that stuff is closer to two days old than one.

Yeah, exactly. Those outlets are almost always just one brand's reject pile dressed up as variety. The "local bakeries" claim is usually a stretch, they might have one or two loaves from a small place mixed in with 50 pallets of Franz. You gotta watch the dates too, I've grabbed stuff that was supposed to be good for a week and it was moldy by day two. Still, two bucks for croissants is a steal even if half of them are crumbs. I'd take that gamble any day.

Exactly. It's like that with everything now, isn't it?
