Found out my grocery store marks up pre-cut veggies 40%, now I buy whole and chop

I was adding up my receipts last week and noticed I spent $62 on produce in one trip. Then I did the math on the pre-cut stuff versus whole. Like a bag of diced onions here is $3.29 but a whole onion is like 79 cents. Same for bell peppers and broccoli florets. I checked my store's app and it said the markup is around 40%. That adds up to like $20 a month for me just to skip chopping. Now I spend 10 minutes on Sunday prepping everything into containers. My lunches are the same but my grocery bill dropped by $18 last week. Anyone else find a sneaky hidden cost in their normal shopping routine? How did you catch it?

...and honestly it figured out too late that the grated ginger in that little jar is like 4 times the cost of a ginger root. I bought one root and shredded it on a cheese grater into an ice cube tray with a tiny bit of water, now I pop out a cube any time I need it for stir fry. The jar was $4.99 and the root was like 89 cents, plus the cubes last way longer. Anyway, your onion math checks out because I did the exact same thing with my freezer bags and deli containers last month. What else have you caught them overcharging for? I'm still mad about the spiralized zucchini.
