My brother said to track every coffee for a month, and I thought he was nuts

He kept going on about it, so I finally wrote down every single coffee shop trip in April. I spent $87. I bought a cheap drip machine for $25 and a bag of beans. Now I make it at home for about 50 cents a cup. Has anyone else cut one small habit and been shocked by the savings?

That $87 in a single month is a real eye-opener. @the_susan, your soup batch idea is smart. Did you track your takeout spending first, or did you just jump right into cooking?

Oh man, that's exactly what I did with takeout lunches. It was like $15 a pop, three times a week. Switched to making big batches of soup on Sundays and the difference is crazy.

That drip machine will pay for itself in no time. The real shock for me was bottled water, which sounds silly until you add it up. Grabbing a couple every time I got gas was like five bucks a week just disappearing. Got a filter pitcher and a decent bottle to refill, problem solved. What other little leaks have people found in their spending?
