My car insurance was about to jump by $60 a month until I called and asked about a defensive driving discount.
I mean, I just mentioned a class I took years ago, and they knocked $22 off my premium right there, so has anyone else had luck just calling and asking for a specific discount they might qualify for?

Call them every renewal. I ask if there are any new discounts I'm missing, and they usually find something. What else have you tried asking for?
