My grandma told me to pay with cash for everything for a month

She said I'd spend less if I felt the money leaving my hands, and I dropped my usual spending by about $120 that month. Has anyone else tried something like this and had it actually work?

Tried the cash only thing a few years back and it actually saved me around $150. Felt way more painful handing over twenties for fast food or random junk.

My roommate tried that and ended up spending more because he'd break a twenty for a $3 coffee and then the change would just disappear into his couch cushions. I actually prefer using a card because every purchase shows up in my banking app and forces me to look at what I actually spent at the end of the week. When I use cash I just shove the leftover bills in my wallet and forget about them until they're gone. Different strokes for different folks I guess but the pain of handing over twenties never worked for me.
