My uncle showed me his old checkbook register from 1995

We were cleaning out his garage in Akron and he pointed to a column of $1.29 entries for coffee. He said, 'That's where the money went... you just have to see it.' Anyone else have a simple thing that made a budget finally click?

A dollar twenty-nine for coffee in 1995 was a luxury purchase. That's less than a fancy soda now, so the lesson feels a bit dramatic. Some people just need a villain for their budget.

Totally get what you're saying. My dad used to give me the same lecture about buying a Snickers bar for 75 cents at the gas station. He'd say that's how you end up poor, while he was filling his truck with gas he couldn't really afford. Some folks just fixate on the small stuff.
