Shoutout to my sister for calling me out on my subscription mess

She asked why I was paying $15 a month for a cloud storage service I hadn't opened in 6 months. Cancelled it on the spot, that's $90 a year I was just burning. Anyone else had a family member point out a waste you were blind to?

$90 a year for a cloud you never opened, that's rough but I love it. My brother caught me paying for a gym membership I hadn't used since 2019, I told him I was "supporting local business" and he just stared at me until I cancelled it. Best part is I signed up for it because I thought the free trial was a month when it was actually a week, so I paid for 3 years of guilt and zero crunches. Your sister probably saved you from a future of paying for a digital attic full of old photos you'll never look at anyway.

Oh I don't know, $90 a year feels like a rounding error in the grand scheme of things, you know? Like sure it's nice to cancel it but people act like you just set your paycheck on fire. My sister tried to guilt me about my old Audible subscription once and I just told her I'm keeping it for the memories (the 47 partially listened books from 2016 are practically family heirlooms at this point). @theac63's quarterly check-in sounds like a lot of work for something that could just sort itself out if you didn't think about it hard enough. Honestly the real waste is the time spent hunting down all these subscriptions when you could be doing literally anything else with that energy.

Set a calendar reminder for every 3 months called "subscription check in" and just go down the list of what's pulling from your account. I do it with my daughter every quarter and we always find at least one thing that's been sitting there for months unused. The cloud storage one got me too actually... I was paying for extra iCloud space for two years after I switched to Google Photos without thinking to cancel it.
