Switched from envelope cash system to a single debit card for tracking

I used to do the whole envelope thing with cash for groceries, gas, and fun money. But after losing $40 somewhere between Target and my car last month, I switched to using just one debit card and tracking everything in a free app. Has anyone else found digital tracking easier than physical cash?

Honestly, is losing 40 bucks really that big of a deal? I mean, it sucks for sure, but people act like you lost your whole paycheck. The envelope system works fine if you don't drop things or leave them in the cart. Seems like a lot of effort to change your whole setup over one accident. Tbh, I still use cash for some stuff because it's harder to overspend when you're handing over actual bills. Ngl, tracking everything on a phone sounds like a pain too, especially when your battery dies or the app glitches.

Found myself in the same boat @terryk10 and honestly splitting cash into different pockets helped me way more than envelopes ever did. Keeps it simple and you don't have to change your whole life over one mistake.

Tried the pocket method after losing my grocery money once, worked perfect.
