That moment I realized my meal prep was costing me more than eating out

I used to spend $60 a week on ingredients for elaborate meal prep that I'd end up tossing half of because I got bored... now I just do simple batch cooking with 3 ingredients max and I'm saving $25 a week easy. Anyone else find that overcomplicating meal prep actually made their food budget worse?

Wait, isn't the whole point of meal prep that you buy in bulk and use everything up? Overcomplicating it is just bad planning, not the method's fault.

@carter.gavin You're not wrong at all, but my meal prep game is more "buy 15 things for one specific recipe and then live off sad eggs and wilted spinach for the rest of the week" (I'm looking at you, random bag of bean sprouts I never used). My planning is like my gym membership - great intentions, less great follow through. I've just accepted that my fridge is a tiny, cold museum of forgotten produce at this point.

@carter.gavin Yeah, because buying 17 different spices for one recipe and forgetting half of them in the back of the fridge is great planning. Simple batch cooking is the real MVP.
