The $22 meal plan that made me ditch my weekly grocery guessing game
I used to just wander the store and grab whatever looked good, then end up eating out three times a week because nothing matched up. Last month my sister in Boise sent me this cheap meal planning printable she found, cost like $22 for the year, and I finally saw where my money was going. The trick was writing down every single meal for the week before shopping, even breakfast and snacks, and sticking to a list organized by aisle. I spent $38 less on groceries that first week, which honestly surprised me because I thought I was already being careful. What convinced me was seeing the actual total at checkout compared to my usual $110 range, and realizing I wasn't throwing out wilted lettuce or half-eaten containers anymore. My biggest mistake before was buying stuff for recipes I'd never make, so now I only plan around things I know we'll actually eat. Has anyone else tried planning every meal down to the snack level, or is that just overkill for most people?

That whole thing about tossing wilted lettuce hits way too close to home... I've thrown away so many sad bags of spinach over the years. Planning every snack does sound like a lot at first, but honestly it's probably the only way to stop those random 4pm chip runs that blow the budget. Good on your sister for pushing that printable, sometimes we just need someone else to show us the trick.
