The woman at my bank who showed me a 10 year old savings trick
Last week I was depositing a check and the teller asked if I had separate accounts for my bills and my fun money. She showed me how she splits her direct deposit 70/30 into two accounts, and apparently it's been keeping her from blowing her electric bill money on takeout for a decade. Tried it with my next paycheck, anyone else do the two account thing and does it actually stick?
Why would you hand a bank more chances to ding you with fees and minimum balance rules? Two accounts just means twice the stuff to mess up, and most people I know who tried this dipped into the bill account anyway when money got tight. The trick isnt the split, its having enough cash that you dont have to rob Peter to pay Paul.
