Vent: Spent three hours trying to fix a leaky shower valve

I had a customer in Phoenix call me about a shower that dripped nonstop. I figured I'd swap out the cartridge in 45 minutes tops. Three hours later I was still wrestling with a set screw that was stripped from the factory. I ended up drilling it out and charging $250 instead of my usual $125. Has anyone else run into a simple repair that turned into a half day project?

Some of those factory set screws are pure junk.

My buddy Jeff stripped out a set screw on a drill press from Harbor Freight within an hour of unboxing it. He was fuming, @susanm56, said he had to drill the whole thing out and tap new threads.
