Spent 2 hours grinding a weld bead flat, then found out my grinder was on low

Been practicing TIG on scrap pipe for a few weeks now. Last Saturday I burned in this fillet weld, looked like a stack of dimes, beautiful. Then I went to zip the bead flat for a test fit and the damn thing took forever. I was cussing the metal, cussing my technique, even cussed the garage lighting. After two hours of fighting it, my neighbor walks over, flips the switch on my angle grinder from setting 1 to setting 5, and the rest of the bead came off in about 20 seconds. I didn't even know that grinder had a speed dial, I'd been running it on low since I bought it used off Facebook Marketplace. Learned to check the tool before blaming the workpiece. Anyone else ever burned hours on something that had a simple fix hiding in plain sight?
