The day I realized my "quick" framing nails were a 400 dollar mistake
For two years I framed every interior wall with 2 inch nails because they set faster and I thought I was saving time. Then a buddy doing a remodel pointed out my headers were pulling apart in his kitchen reno, and I checked a few of my older jobs around Columbus. Sure enough, cracks along the top plates, nails backing out after a dry season. I switched to 3 inch ring shanks for anything load bearing, but I'm curious how many others learned the hard way with a specific fastener or method they swore by. What was your moment where you realized your shortcut was actually the weak link?

Three inch ring shanks for anything load bearing, that's the line I keep coming back to. Did you catch it on your own or did that buddy have to show you the cracks before you believed it?
