Finally hit the 365 day streak in my daily habit tracker after 3 failed attempts

I kept breaking the chain around day 200, but this time I just simplified my tracker to only 3 things per day and it stuck, has anyone else found that less columns actually helps you stay consistent?

One of my buddies was the same way, he kept trying to track like 10 things and would quit after a month. He dropped down to just two things to check off every day and now he's been going for almost two years straight. Less really is more I guess.

Why not just make it a game with yourself?

I actually went the opposite direction and found that adding more columns helped me stick with it. When I only had 3 things, I felt like I could miss them and it didn't matter much. But once I bumped it up to 7 daily habits, the pressure to not break the chain felt way bigger. Watching that long list stay all green gave me a real sense of accomplishment, like I was actually getting something done. If I had just 3 boxes to check, I'd slack off and let the streak die.
