Just lost a whole week of journaling to a pen bleed disaster

I bought a pack of those cheap, colorful pens from the dollar store for my weekly spreads. They worked fine on the first page, so I did a whole theme for next week... but the ink bled through to the next five pages. I'm talking a total mess, you can't read anything underneath. I had to tear out six pages from my journal, which basically wasted my whole Sunday setup time. Has anyone found a good way to test pens before committing a whole spread to them?

Saw a tip about testing pens on the last page of your journal first... saves the good pages from a bleed.
