My $85 leather journal cover that made me hate journaling at first

I grabbed this fancy leather cover from a shop in Portland because I thought it would make my bujo feel more special. But the thing is, it's so bulky and stiff that I started avoiding writing in it, and my whole system fell apart for like 3 months. Then I switched back to my plain $8 notebook with a rubber band and everything clicked again. So my question is, did anyone else blow money on an upgrade that actually made things worse before going back to basics? Or am I the only one who got burned by the aesthetic?

Oh yeah, I bought a fancy leather cover once and it sat in a drawer for a year before I finally sold it at a garage sale for five bucks. The thing weighed more than my actual journal and it felt like I was wrestling a cow every time I wanted to write. Then the smell... my whole bag smelled like a barn for weeks. Went right back to my flimsy spiral notebook with the coffee stain on it, and boom, journaling was fun again. Sometimes the cheap stuff just works because it doesn't get in your way. Guess we both paid the stupid tax on that one.
