That awkward moment when my bullet journal became the main topic at a casual brunch

A few summers back, I was at a friend's brunch and left my bullet journal open on the table. Someone picked it up, thinking it was a group activity planner, and started reading my weekly goals aloud. I remember my face flushing as everyone chuckled at my overly detailed meal prep schedule. In those days, I was so rigid with my spreads that any outside attention felt invasive. Now, I laugh about it and even add brunch memories next to my to-do lists. My journal has evolved from a sterile task manager to a cherished storybook of small moments. Funny how a little social clumsiness can soften your approach and make the practice more human.

Time's spring journaling piece had a section on brunch entries.

At my cousin's wedding brunch last month, someone's journal got passed around too. That initial cringe you felt is totally valid because these books should stay private tools. Turning a task list into a storybook just mixes up your system and makes it less helpful for actual work. The old, rigid way kept things clear and focused on what needs doing. Letting brunch chats change your method sounds like it waters down the whole point, (you know, like losing the plot). A journal cluttered with memories just gets in the way of checking off tasks fast.

Brunch bullet journal entry: 'remember to chew slowly.' (I didn't.)
