My coworker saw my lane changes and told me to stop using my side mirror only

She said I was missing cars in my blind spot every time, so now I actually turn my head before merging. Has anyone else had to unlearn bad habits from years of driving alone?

Cranked my neck wrong last week turning to check the blind spot on the highway, ended up with a stiff shoulder for three days. My old habit was just a quick glance in the mirror, but now I'm overcorrecting and swinging my whole head around like an owl. Funny how you think you've got it down until someone points out you're basically driving blind half the time.

Ha yeah "overcorrecting like an owl" is a perfect way to put it lol. I did the same thing after I tweaked my back lifting a heavy box wrong felt like I was paranoid for a month every time I moved. Honestly though I think the whole blind spot thing is a lost cause with modern cars anyway the pillars are so thick now you can turn your head all you want and still miss a whole sedan. I just rely way too much on my mirrors now and hope for the best.

Wait has anyone else's friend just completely refused to drive after one bad blind spot experience? My buddy Sarah literally would not get on the highway for like two weeks after she almost merged into a minivan. She kept saying the car pillars felt like they were growing out of her head lol. She started doing this thing where she'd turn her whole upper body like a mannequin at a slow speed, it was honestly hilarious but also kinda terrifying to watch from the passenger seat.
