Saw a stat last week that 1 in 4 crashes happen at roundabouts

Found it on some DOT website while looking up why the new traffic circle near my shop keeps causing near misses. Seems wild to me since everyone says they're safer. Guess not when people treat yield signs like optional decorations. You guys notice more fender benders at roundabouts lately?

You said "1 in 4 crashes happen at roundabouts" but I think that stat might be off. Most DOT studies actually show roundabouts reduce serious injury crashes by about 80 percent compared to regular intersections. The 1 in 4 number sounds more like it refers to multi-vehicle crashes at roundabouts specifically, not all crashes everywhere.

Stick with the DOT data on this one. Roundabouts are designed to slow traffic down and cut out the worst types of collisions. Your point about the 80 percent reduction in serious injuries is the real story here, not some pulled number.
