Vent: The lady in the minivan who taught me about merge lanes
So I'm driving home on I-94 near Detroit last Tuesday, and this lady in a beat-up minivan cuts me off at the on-ramp, then waves sorry. I was ready to lay on the horn, but she rolled down her window at the next light and yelled, 'You gotta commit or you'll never get in!' And honestly, she was right (about the merging, not the cutting off part). Has anyone else had a stranger's driving advice actually stick with you?

Saw a driving instructor on YouTube say the same thing. Hesitation causes more accidents than bad decisions in merging.

Totally agree @gibson.sarah - same thing happens when people pause in fast-moving grocery aisles too.

Oh man, that's exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear way back when I first started driving on the highway. Some old guy in a pickup truck yelled at me to "pick a gap and GO" while I was hesitating at a merge near Toledo... I was so nervous I about stalled out, but he was right. You can't just sit there waiting for a perfect opening, you gotta take what's there and make it work. I still think about that whenever I'm on a tight on-ramp.
