Burned $40 on a fancy cast iron pizza steel that cracked on first use

I was so hyped to make restaurant-style pizza at home that I dropped $40 on this thick steel plate from Amazon. Followed all the seasoning steps perfectly, preheated it for 45 minutes like they said, and when I slid the pizza on, the thing split right down the middle with a loud pop. My pizza dough fell through onto the oven rack and caught fire, smoking up the whole kitchen for 20 minutes. Customer service said it was "thermal shock" and offered me a 10% discount on a new one, lol no thanks. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget that broke first try and cost you more than just money?

Did your friend preheat theirs on the stove instead of in the oven?

Oh @the_claire my buddy once put a frozen pizza on the burner and the fire department showed up.
