Burned a $30 brisket so bad my neighbor called the fire department

Last Saturday I forgot about a brisket on the smoker and ran to the store for beer. Came back to a 15-foot flame shooting out the side and the guy next door banging on my door with a garden hose. Anyone else ever ruined a cut of meat so expensive you just stood there staring at the ashes?

Ok but @mary_martin22, your grill did its job that day-smoke alarms are just overachieving dinner bells.

Last summer I had a $40 prime rib on the grill and got distracted by a True Crime podcast... next thing I know the fire department is pulling up because my grill caught the patio furniture on fire. I just stood there holding my tongs like an idiot watching the whole thing go up.
