My mother in law told me my gravy was 'too brown' and now I can't unsee it

She said it looked burnt because I used a dark roux, but it tasted fine to me. Has anyone else had to change a recipe just because someone said it looked wrong?

Agree with you that sometimes people just gotta comment on stuff that's totally fine. Honestly it feels like everyone's got a hot take on everything these days, from gravy colors to how you fold your laundry. My buddy's mom literally told him his pancakes were "too round" once, like what does that even mean? Seems like people just zero in on random details instead of just enjoying what's in front of them. You did nothing wrong, your gravy was probably legit.

Lucas, I gotta say you're mostly right but that "too round" thing actually does make some sense if you think about it. My grandma used to complain if her pancakes came out too symmetrical because she said they looked "store bought" instead of homemade. It's a weird hangup for sure, but it's a real thing people say. Anyway, your main point still stands - people will nitpick anything when they're bored or just trying to feel superior. The gravy color thing? Total nonsense.
