Set off the smoke alarm making burgers for my kid's birthday and now I'm scared of my broiler
So 2 weeks ago I tried to broil burgers for my daughter's 9th birthday party and walked away to grab the ketchup. Came back to flames licking the top rack and the smoke alarm screaming while 6 kids ran outside crying. The burgers were straight charcoal hockey pucks and my wife still brings it up at dinner. I ended up ordering pizza and everyone acted like it was fine but I know they all saw the blackened patties on the counter. How do you guys get the crispy outside without torching the whole thing, do I just need to stand there the entire time?
Why were you trying to broil burgers in the first place when that setting is basically a blowtorch on high? Broiling means the heat comes from the top and it'll char anything within a minute if you aren't watching it the whole time. Just cook them on the stove or grill like normal and you'll get that crispy crust without the fire show.
